If there is a clown for a children`s hospital why not one for the grown-ups? That was the
question I asked myself while performing in September 2002 in an old people`s home in my
home town Bocholt.
On the spur of the moment and full of curiosity I went after the official show was over through
the living quarters from room to room. The old people seemed so full of joy and humour and gave
me such a friendly welcome that I decided the healthy effect of laughter should be used more
often.
The director of the home, Mr. Tepasse, was so impressed with my work that he started a
battle with bureaucracy and created the first job for a clown in an old people`s home.
And here a miracle took place: "Since our clown Klaus Renzel is here everybody is happier.
People who had for a long time shown little interest in life and staff who had only work on their
minds have been able to laugh again."
